Heidi (anuk Steffen) loses her parents when she is very young, and she is helpless. Fortunately, she is accepted by her aunt. However, the care can not last long. Finally, Heidi comes to the Alps and goes to her grandfather (Bruno Ganz). In the eyes of the villagers, grandfather is a stubborn and eccentric old man, and he keeps away from him. However, Heidi's innocent eyes find the tenderness hidden in his heart. The old and the young take off their guard and depend on each other.
A sheep boy named Pete has become Heidi's new friend, and they have formed a deep friendship. But the good time is not long, Heidi is forced to leave her grandfather and Pete and come to the rich lady Clara (Isabel Altman Isabelle Ottmann) home to be her playmate. Clara's legs can't walk because of her childhood illness, and her personality is introverted and eccentric. Heidi's arrival opens the door to a new world for her and brings back her long lost happiness.
